Giant Sea Bass aka Black Sea Bass
Channel Islands, CA.
Giant sea bass, now critically endangered, sometimes congregate at specific locales, likely for breeding purposes. There are four fish in this photo, and their observed behavior over the course of an hour-long dive demonstrated a strong tendency toward pair formation, with a sleeker, svelte male following a rotund heavy bodied female doggedly.
